Ack! Ok, I deleted a file (a story I created), thinking it was not needed. Now, my friend is asking for a copy of it. I need that file. PLEASE! I need it, she'll go nuts without it. She loves the story. How do I recover the file without downloading anything. If I must download something, then please give me something I don't have to sign up for, doesn't cost money, and is a trial. Please! I need this!

I deleted a file I need to RECOVER!!
(6 posts)If it was not too long ago, you may be able to recover it with Shadow Explorer. Have a look at my tutorial: http://www.howtogeek.com/forum.....?replies=6
Hi.
Long time ago I did the same, accidentally deleted a file, then in this forum one suggested me this freeware!
This one Restoration does the job for me - simple interface with no install either
However, it really is up to you which out of all these suggestions you decide to use, seeing as everybody has their own personal preferences.
Also, on certain files/types, different recovery software is going to work better. Basically, don't stop trying!
Don't delete anything you don't have to until you have recovered your document - you don't want to go writing over the cache intentionally.
Aleeve's advice about not overwriting the file is well considered.
When you deleted that file all the Master File Table got was an "OK" to write in the space that the file occupied. So as long as you haven't written to the disk the file actually is still there, except now the MFT knows that it can overwrite it whenever it wants, and the file name has been truncated to signal the MFT that it's OK to overwrite it.
Your HDD is like a file cabinet. The file is like a drawer. That drawer can now be used for something else. The person doing the filing has been "authorized" to throw that file out for good and put something else in that drawer.
So, until you recover that file, it would be prudent NOT to do any saving to the partition where the file was located (don't use any drawers). And once you get this file recovered, save it to removable media (a CD or USB stick), and you won't have this problem again even if you do delete it again from the HDD.
At least one of the tools people have given you here should work. Good luck.
