back in college, i had a class where we used macromedia dreamweaver and macromedia flash for developing web pages, like ASP classic and PHP.

i was wondering if anybody knows a freeware program that has similar functionalities (or better) with dreamweaver.

Really depends on what you are looking for... Dreamweaver is fairly unmatched when it comes to drag and drop designing of pages and seeing what you are looking at.

If you want a more technical IDE, Eclipse + Aptana works well.

If you just want something to design very basic HTML pages, Kompozer is the answer(of sorts).

Personally I use a combination of text editor, eclipse, phped and Firefox with the Firebug plugin for PHP stuff, and I use Visual Studio at work.
