Here is why i guess 'we' may find emailing topic updates are helpful.. from ur own words ;)

i agree .. if someone is a geeky!
How about other part of the equation: the non-geekyz (and some newbiez :)
we wrote for them.. and they can't make a "come back" to find the solution that 'we' spent time for ..
B'cuz simply: they couldn't make it ..
will: some are 'in 1st place' not geekyz at all.. and must be led back here by email notification.
Then, Forum might get more than 50% increased in SOLVED answers, and i guess more than 200% increased by traffic B'cuz the 2 parties of the equation are involved :))
This is what i was planing to share in this topic for the time being, and might comeback if necessary.
