Hi, I need help big time! I partitioned my drive and then put another OS on it which failed, so I need to restore the MBR back to vista. Unfortunately, someone has been mucking about with my vista install disc, I really need this laptop for tomorrow at school. I can load a mac disc on it so that I can do sumthing through terminal.

I'm begging for help here as I have important files on it so, I can't reinstall vista for tht exact reason.

Anything you can think of that might be helpful, please post on here.

Thank you very much
Andrew

Andrew, if you can't get your Vista disc back, you can make a bootable Vista disc following these instructions:

After you boot into the Windows Recovery Environment (RE), you should run the bootrec.exe command. I'm not sure of the exact sequence, but start with:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot

See the instructions in the following Microsoft KB article which includes a bcdedit command sequence to try if the bootrec command alone doesn't do the trick.
