How to merge partitions?

My external hard disk (previously my laptop's internal HD) only has 160GB, with 2 partitions. My new internal HD is an Intel SSD 520 with 240GB.
I am using the 160GB one as a back up. As space is limited in that HD, I would like to merge the 2 partitions together to form one single larger volume.
How do I go about doing that?

In Disk Management, right click on the rightmost partition and delete Partition and Volume until you have 'unallocated space ' (not freespace). Then right click on the leftmost partition and 'Extend' - the upcoming wizard will guide you.
