So, this is a fairly cool system. I have not had a chance to play around with it too much, and even if this could get an article i would be happy.
I found out a while ago that on vista, you can use Microsoft's tool, Windows Steadystate to limit users to certain powers. You can delay time allow logged in, limit file creation and modification options, you can even have it restore you hard drive to a certain state when you restart. One of the cool features though is the ability to add a domain-like login box. It asks for a Username and Password. Thats it. So what I found you can do is hide an account, such as an admin account using registry hacks, just to make your system a little more secure. I like the original windows login screen, where you press ctrl-alt-delete and type in a username and password.
To hide an account in vista, you add a value to the registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList. Just a warning for all of you, if you haven't heard it before, registry hacks are sometimes dangerous. You add a DWORD value with the username, double click it, and set the value to '0'. This will hide your account on the login screen. If you have a laptop, like i am working on right now, it is nice to be able to do this and hide accounts once more.
