Under "New Action - Start A Program" I am only allowed to put an exe file. In Win7 I could e g put a text document here, and then it would automatically open in notepad. But Win8 for me seems unable to associate files to programs within the scheduler. For normal applications I can fix this, e g to open a text file I can put notepad as exed file and my text file as argument. But not for scf, since the associated application is Explorer and it can't have arguments apparently. Think it can be the same issue as DW is having. Strange that it works on some PCs though. Mine wasn't a clean install, it was an upgrade from a Win7 install.

DavidBanner, hi. Win 8 is still in development and there is still much work to be done.

And an upgrade is not the way to go, if you want to beta, a clean install is the way to go.

Many members have been working with 8 and are pretty well unimpressed, so looking for a quick answer might fall on deaf ears.

Thanks for the reply, but I also tried it on a fresh install now and it's the same. And I tried all settings in the first tab in the scheduler task, and used an admin account.

The reason for this post, clear to me but perhaps not to everybody else, is this guide on howtogeek:

The New version of Classic Shell will skip Metro in Windows 8.

Many of us on HTG have been using Classic Shell with Windows 7 since it was developed. (Know Good Software)

@Irv,

Yeah I posted StarDock 8 up on Best of Breed Topic (Page 11) two weeks ago.

I think I know where I can get 8 RTM but am a bit scared of the torrent so can't test nothing.

I think MS will end up FORCING folks to boot into "metro" first just like they FORCE WGA and other crap folks hate.

Between MS and Apple, I'm getting "GD" Sick of computing !!!!

LOL! I was just about to post this thread:

"I had this sorted in Win8 RP, and I forgot how I did it. It would load from a cold boot, bypass the log-on screen having to press the picture, and within 1-2 seconds would kill the start screen and literally dump me into the desktop area. I believe the option in ClassicShell was what worked last time in RP, but this doesn't seem to be working currently on the RTM. I just sit on the Start Screen instead."

Can anyone confirm that the ClassicShell 'bypass Metro' option no longer works?
