I'm not referring to customizing a pic for files within the folder.I'm talking about an album pic that comes with a downloaded file that remains in the fole folder after you've deleted the file. Can't even locate it.Emptied entire files,so folder is empty.Pic is still there. It's not the music folder.Just the downloads file folder I use to download talk radio files so I can skip commercials and then delete file.Already used Ccleaner and antispyware-adware remover. No biggie, just curious where it is located.

How do you delete an album pic on downloads file folder?
(28 posts)Jim, do try what drifta suggested -- there could be a thumbs.db file in that folder. However, you are on Vista so it should not be that way.
Vista caches thumbnails which is why you can see a folder custom picture even after the picture being used to generate that thumbnail is gone. Try deleting the thumbnail cache using Disk Cleanup. Note that this will delete *all* cached thumbnails, so they will need to be regenerated the next time you navigate to a folder with images. However, I have seen this operation clear up problems with bad thumbnails. Also note that Disk Cleanup remembers your selections, so be sure to deselect "Thumbnails" the next time you use it.
EDIT: to answer the question of "where", the Vista thumbnail cache is in %LOCALAPPDATA%\IconCache.db which by default is C:\Users\(your_userid)\AppData\Local\IconCache.db. All of the cached thumbnails are kept in this one file.
I'll try Scott's suggestion. Was going to do that this week anyway. The other suggestions didn't work.Reminds me of another post awhile back on Word.It took a week or two for the deleted files to clear from files list on that one.Thanks.I'll post again if that takes care of it or not.Thanks.
No,the disk cleanup didn't work. But if it' in the appsdata it should be cleared eventually.Didn't know there was a specific icon cache. Thanks for the tip.To LH...it's not an album, just a thumbnail pic from a radio show, and the show is deleted already.Nothing to take ownership of.I usually listen to the same stations like RBN,Microeffect,American Voice, and GCN.The only times I got a pic was from the new goofball Lan Lamphere,a pseudoo-patriot,and another talkshow. On both of those the downloads were long for better sound and copied to music file as well. But I checked music folder and both deleted okay. And the recent one[Lan Lamphere's mugshot] overwrote the last one,so that thumbnail pic is gone. So,if anything I'll download something to overwrite that mugshot.Hate to delete the folder, not sure if it will affect future downloads,or if a new folder is creatred on first download as is done with Realpplayer and printer scanning.??? Any other tips are welcome. Thanks again.
i suggest you simply delete the folder. the nxt time u dl something the folder will be recreated. i have on numerous occasions deleted folders and they have been recreated. you should delete the folder and then dl something to check it out. if it doesnt work u can use previous versions to get your old folder back.
Thanks drifta.I thought so.I'll go with that option.Nothing else worked. And this is the simple manila folder, not like the blue ones, though I've deleted one when I first got pc and just restored it from recycle bi.But I was thinking this downloads folder being a manila type would just autocreate on next download. So you can file this question as SOLVED.Thanks to Scott W as well.I didn't try typing a search using the above location because I wanted to see if someone had tryed deleting folder as drifta did.Just wanted to make sure.Thanks.
this is very strange.
try making a duplicate of one of the already made folders and then rename it to downloads.
before you do that though, right click the current folder click on properties than navigate your way to the customize tab.
once in customize tab click on change icon and then when the popup appears click on restore defaults.
if this doesnt work than try coping another folder and rnaming it. abviously it wont have the downwards pointing arrow but its worth a shot. atleast it will be blue and it might pick up another picture from another file
good luck
Are you playing the downloaded files with Windows Media Player (WMP)? I have a theory at the moment that it is auto downloading Album Art and storing it in the music file's folder as I've used WMP and I have a bunch of JPG files in my music folder. It could be a different program though as I have other players installed.
jd2066--yes,the files open up in WMP.But I can not fiond album art in the blue Music files folder. All that is in there is itunes folder, yahoo music folder, ans sample music folder. Tell me your theory or where album art is located.Thanks. drifta---tried the right-click method several times and restore defaults doesn't work. And yes,I remebered to click apply and ok.Also, did complete scan and clean with a couple different types of software.Computer is clean.Just can't locate this thumbnail album pic.Tried to send folder to desktop and rename.Still has pic.Tried to copy and it doesn't copy to anywhere.Again, this isn't a blue folder. It's the standard manila folder with no pic on it.And is called Downloads file folder. The album art thumbnail pic is in the folder, and remains there when all downloads are deleted and folder is empty. The only time it was gone was when I threw it in recycle bin and then restored it.But when I downloaded a program it came back. The folder has the same date of origin as the rest of the permanent blue type folders, and it doesn't auotcreate a new one if you delete it.The downloads go to Documents, which is why I restored it from recycle bin.Interested if there are other ways to locate the darn thing.Thanks.
I went thrugh music folder and found album art in yahoo folder,it wasn't there. Not in other ones either.I think this download opened with yahoo jukebox, but left the album art in the
Downloads File folder. Most of the downloads I do open up with WMP.I'll check the files in the players.Any other suggestions? Thanks.
I found it in the albums list in my WMP.I right-clicked and deleted it.Pic is still in Downloads File Folder, but maybe now it will be in appsdata and be cleared at some time or after reboot.Right? Thanks.Didn't think of looking in WMP until jd2066 mentioned it.Not sure why it was dumped there.
Tried disk cleanup again.Didn't work. And the reason the customize and restore defaults doesn't work is because the pic is not "on" the folder, but inside it.Folder is empty, but album art still there. At least we found the thing in WMP and deleted it.So,now it is a matter of finding out how to get rid of it from the Downloads File folder.I did find more blank albums in WMP from other deleted shows though. So thanks for that tip.
