If a single frame screen capture is wanted, Win8 is set up to do this efficiently. Video capture is a different beast.
To do an easy, single frame capture of your entire screen: press and hold the Windows key and then tap Print Screen on the keyboard. You will now have a folder for all your screen shots in the following directory "C:\Users\<username>\Pictures\Screenshots"
You may or may not see the screen darken briefly when the screen capture is made.
