If it is a desktop use the setup buttons on your monitor adjust the brightness and contrast.

ClearType is turned on by default in Windows 7 and Windows Vista

If one changes a bunch things, the Clear Type will fade out and must be reset-up darker I have found from experience.

This is especially true with a Clean Install and then a complete machine setup.

Clear Type settings are easy to lose their setting for some reason in Win7 so I check it
every machine maintenance period.

Just a remembrance from my archive mind. :) :) (lol)

Click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display then on the left Adjust Clear Type Text. Make it how you want it.

Exactly what text do you want to make darker?
Word? Internet page?

My computer has "Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel". I like the versatility of it, but I cannot find any one configuration suitable for text and for graphics. The best graphics setups creates faded out stuff like the grid lines in Excel and the data entry boxes on many apps. The best usable text config creates very dark graphics such as photos and vids.

It would help if I had a means (shortcut or key stroke) to easily switch modes.

@cooldude49, you need to be more specific text is controlled by the program the text is in. Do you mean in word, in Notepad, In a Browser, which browser. Where is the text you want darker???

This is easy. Right click on the desktop and click on your graphics control center (e.g. Catalyst). Find the sliders where you can set Contrast, Gamma, etc. Play with those until you have the desired setting. Then Apply.

@cooldude49, likewise, kindly specify if your computer is a laptop or a desktop. If it is a desktop what kind of monitor are you using?

Can you give the model of the AOC monitor maybe we can help with the buttons.
Is it only in Windows Explorer your having problem with the text display and none in other apps like MS Word or Notepad?

Not on the monitor but in the graphics control center. Right click on the desktop and see whether there is one - should be.
