Hey,

I was wondering how to host my own website from my computer. I have several computers, and I would use this one as a dedicated server. I've downloaded a few things that I thought would get it done, but nothing seems to work. I downloaded Wamp Server and HFS but neither of them will use my external IP as the site. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can AIM me at: bottlerocket625

Thanks guys!

MrMac,
The first link is a how-to ( I didn't read whole article )
The second is a google search which may be of help.
The 3rd is some MS info documentation
http://www.dslwebserver.com/
http://www.google.com/search?h.....oq=run+own
http://www.microsoft.com/downl.....laylang=en
I've never tried it as always used a good third party due to time but obviously is possible and probably fun to do.

Kindest Regards,

What Operating System does the computer you want to run a web server on have? Also what internet connection type do you have? Like Dial-Up, Cable or DSL. Also are all the computers connected to a router?

If you are just doing it for fun, by all means go for it. If you are creating a website for professional purposes, I highly recommend getting a hosted solution.

MrMac,

I agree with The Geek.
That's why I said "for fun".
Too much other "stuff" involved if wanting to do a professional site.
Plus could get expensive really fast.

Thanks a ton for all the suggestions guys. I read up on what you posted raphoenix.

Also, I'm running Windows XP and on cable. I found some DNS redirection sites that were free and some software that will allow you to host it from you PC! I'm still working on getting the URL working correctly. I post back if I get it all set.

Thanks!
