i just noticed that my vista home basic system's hibernation option has suddenly disappeared. I just went on searching the widows help and also got to know about hybrid sleep and both of them are missing in power options- advanced settings. for now i am putting the system on sleep but i need a solution thx in advance

Open a Command Prompt as Administrator and type "powercfg -hibernate on". This and other methods are described here:

abhs94. Did you, by any chance, run some sort of "cleanup" that would delete your Hibernation file?

Glad to see another hibernate frequenter!
I use hibernate all the time, and I find it really useful having a shortcut on my desktop, because not only could I just double click on the icon, but I set mine to a keyboard shortcut - CTRL+ALT+H which is very quick and easy!

The original article where I found out how to do it is here, but I have uploaded the on on my desktop to Sky Drive, so you can download that if you like:

I understand you may be a little wary about downloading a .exe file from an unknown person's computer - fair enough, I would be!

So if you would prefer to make your own, either use the article,
or r-click on desktop, click new shortcut, and then copy this command into the location section:

rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll,SetSuspendState

Here is an icon I made that you may wish to use as well: http://cid-681f85bab4fe77db.sk.....ernate.ico

The background is actually transparent. As you may well know, only .ico files can be used for icons on desktop shortcuts, and that one works :)

Alternatively, you may not want an icon at all!
But that is how you can get one if you like.
