Hello all.
Hope someone can help, been searching the forums to no avail.
Running vista 32 home premium.
Getting the error message on various system programs, event viewer, volume panel, paint amongst others.
All point to the same file.

C:Windows\system32\ODBC32.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error

Checked the file on the OS drive and it is showing as 0kb. on the DELL recovery drive the same file is 400kb.

done revert back sfc/scannow, scandisc, chkdsk etc of which none can fix the problem. chkdsk shows volume clean. sfc shows some errors which cannot fix.Startup recovery says all fine.
The error only occurs on logging on or running an effected programme.

Hoping someone can give me a step by step guide how to replace the file on the OS with the one on the recovery drive, that is I imagine that is what needs to be done. I have seen the great article by the geek on how to take back the file and delete it but am unsure how to replace it.

I really don't want to have to reset to factory settings AGAIN! and am well aware that is what Microsoft or Dell will tell me.

Hope someone can help,
Thanks in advance,
Paul

If the file on the Dell disk is not comressed then simply copy it to C:Windows\system32\ it will overwrite the corrupt version

Ensure you do this in safe mode as you will not be able to overwrite a system file while it is being used by the system.

Quite right AlanMCC, thankyou, but surely the file is not being used by the system, because it is corrupted!
