hello,
i was going to make a partition to install windows xp on, so i made a 10GB partition.
my XP OS cd wasnt working, so i gave up and 'deleted' the partition.

but now my main partition where Vista is displays: 93GB free of... instead of 103GB!

i thought i deleted the partition?

what happened?

any help is appreciated!

My issue is a little different, but oh well. When I built my new rig, Vista said it needed a minimum of 15GB free space on a hard disk drive no smaller than 20GB. I have a pair of 250GB drives arranged as RAID0 and I thought it would be nice, for organizational purposes, to separate my system files from my other files. I created a partition of exactly 20GB for the operating system to load on to, unsure of whether this would be C drive or D drive, and left the rest for everything else. Well, the partition worked, but my operating system is in the normal partition leaving the 20GB I had reserved clear and free. I would like to see if I can move the operating system to the smaller partition, but if not, I guess I'd like to see if it is possible to merge the two partitions. Any ideas?

You'll have to use one of the commercial packages or use gparted... the built-in vista shrink partition just doesn't have that type of ability.

@pdisna: You can follow the steps at http://www.howtogeek.com/howto.....-computer/ on shrinking a partition and creating a new one.
When it gets to rebooting and installing Windows XP you can skip that if you don't want to do that.
