Hi envy. In my opinion, two GTX 295 is major overkill and a big waste of money! I know, I've got two. You end up with the dreaded "Quad SLI Stutter" in many games. An example of this would be GTA 4, and also Crysis. It's not so bad with Crysis but in GTA 4 most of the shading in game will flicker like crazy - sometimes unbearably so.

The second PCI slot on your mobo will only run at x4, I'd guess this would be very restrictive to a GTX 295. And this mobo only supports Dual channel memory - triple channel would be an advantage.

Also, I'd choose the core i7 920 then simply overclock to your desired frequency. Trust me - this chip will OC. See this for instructions. I got mine to 4Ghz in no time using this guide. You should get it MUCH cheaper than the 950, so put the savings in to a kick "bottom" mobo.

If you want to go SLI or Crossfire make sure the Mobo has at least two PCIe x16 2.0 - running at x16. This will ensure maximum bandwidth to all of your cards. You'll probably need a bigger PSU to power a Quad SLI system (If that's what you want to do) I'd recommend the best PSU you can afford. Antec is a good choice but you're gonna need more juice!

Sorry to ramble on a bit - I love this stuff.

If you are spending that much money on a build, you should be seriously looking at an SSD for the operating system. For another $250 you can get an 80GB Intel 25X or a 60GB OCZ Vertex. Those together with Windows7 (because of Trim support) would really speed up your system. No other $250 investment can provide even nearly the same speed booster. For your data you can keep the barracuda.

very decent build, but here are my suggestions.
i7 920 (LGA1136) is the best CPU there is, with a slight overclock on a decent mobo like the ASUS P6T deluxe V2, you will achieve 4GHZ like prosthetic head said, and yes two GTX 290's are overkill, at the moment the ATI radeon HD 5870 is the best GPU on the market 2 of these would destroy any game, actually just one would, it also supports DX11 games, which currently no other card does, although there are noDX11 games out, Win7 comes with DX11, im sure it will have its benefits in the not too distant future. case wise you are better off with the Antec 900, or 1200.
Yep you will need a PSU from 850W upwards.

you definitely want to go for LGA 1366 and X58 motherboard combo because this is the best there is at the moment, the P55 and LGA 1156 are cheaper and dont have quite the same performance figures as the X58 and LGA 1366.
it seems as though you have a VERY large budget, i mentioned the ATI 5870 because its the newest card there is, however the GTX 290 is a monster when it comes to games. its a hard choice. DX 10.1 or DX11. you will be running Win7 according to your post, but this is the 32-bit version, remember with the 32-bit version you can only have up to 4GB of RAM, upwards from that its not recognized, only with 64-bit its recognized and utilized. no need for such an expensive PSU as you posted above, there are better ones at cheaper prices, when i have time ill suggest a list of parts for you, as ive done in other posts.

alright so my mobo would be this then http://www.newegg.ca/Product/P.....6813131386 its X58 and triple channel. I guess I would get a win 7 64 bit operating system but for some reason newegg.ca isnt specifying which one of the 2 home premiums are 64 bit. newegg doesnt seem to be featuring any PSU higher than 750w...
Also seeing the reviews for this the ati radeon HD 5870 kind of makes me want one...I currently have a piece of crap ati radeon 3100 in my laptop and definitely need something like this. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/P.....0HD%205870
Maybe two?
Here is the Antec 900: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/P.....6811129021
Looks nice and is cheap also.
edit: reviews for that mobo are crap so i found a different one: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/P.....6813130226
it says "Ships with crossfire bridge instead of nvidia bridge, which is really hard to find. " seeing as im getting an ATI card that doesn't really matter does it?

Windows 7 home premium (& above) should, if memory serves, ship with a disk for both 32 and 64 bit.

I agree with WHS suggestion of an SSD. I've got 2 15000 rpm SAS HDDs and a compatible mobo (Asus P6T6 WS) and yes, it's really fast running in RAID 0. But the high pitched whine from the drives gets old quickly so not ideal. I'd guess an SSD's completely silent?

Just a thought, overclocking the core i7 is primarily done on the baseclock, so you're gonna want a strong motherboard. The P6T Deluxe v2 Mickeyblue suggested was my second choice for my build... It rocks, you should check it out. Quite a bit more expensive than the MSI board you looked at though.

LG drives are good enough, I use them myself. Not sure if blueray would be worth all that cash to me, $300 seems excessive. I'd shop around a bit, or wait until they get cheaper!

I have no experience of SSDs but I trust whs' suggestions.

yep, P6T deluxe V2 is a killer mobo, great overclocker, worth the extra cash.
about the Graphics, 1 5870 will be more than ample for now, but if in future you want more then just get another one, the P6T deluxe V2 has support for SLI (nvidia) and Crossfire (ATI) so its a win win.
not too sure on optical drives, but all in all it should be a killer build, REMEMBER now that you going for the X58 motherboard you need to change the RAM to triple channel.
