What does the drive show up as in Disk management.
Type "diskmgmt.msc" (without quotes) in a Run box.

Was just going to ask that lol. It could be because it is showing as a logical drive, when it should be a Primary Partition (I think)

No. Logical arrives when you have surpassed the limit for Primary partitions on a single drive. Depends on the OS.
I have 6 drives (1 Internal, 5 external), all are Primary.

Above is not strictly true.
In Vista you can have up to 4 Primary partitions on a single drive.
You can create an Extended partition, in which you can create Logical drives.

It is actually better to have your backups on an external drive anyway. That way, you can unplug it between backups. Less chance of corruption.
