Hi,
It would be great if anyone has an idea what kind of problem I am dealing with here.
Two days ago, my USP ports just stopped working. I turned off my Toshiba Satellite A305-6829 (operating system Windows Vista Home Premium) in the evening, the next day I turned it back on, nothing.
I tried to connect my mouse and two different external hard drives, their light is on, so there is power, but the devices are not recognized.
In the device manager, it shows a yellow exclamation mark next to all the USB ports and under properties it says "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)".
I tried to uninstall the drivers and reinstall, it's still the same. I tried a system restore as well.
Is there anything else I can do? Is it likely to be a hardware problem? The laptop is only 4 months old and everything else works fine.
Thanks so much for any suggestions,
Luna

Hi Luna. Did you try "Scan for hardware changes", in Device Manager?

Yes I did. Nothing. Did a System restore as well, no changes.

The closest thing I found, was for XP, but it's worth a try.
Uninstall the problem drivers.
Reboot.
Scan for hardware changes.

See if that way works.

Unfortunately this didn't work either. I am at a loss what else to do, apart from completely reinstalling my system which would be a real hassle...

I couldn't find anything more on it :(
A system repair is not so painful as a reinstall. Might be worth a try.

Are you up to date on all Windows Updates including SP1?

Good point Scott.
It may also be worth doing this.
Open a Command Prompt, type in "sfc /scannow" (without the quotes), and see if anything turns up.
