So I have this computer that I rieceved from my friend that has 470 infections on it. 230 of them were tracking cookies. The reason that this happened was because Mcafee didn't do it's job and protect his pc from infection. Now that it's infected, I can't remove Mcafee from his computer! Every time I boot, I get an error message saying that "Mcafee Virus scan is turned off." I even tried to run the uninstaller provided by Mcafee, but that didn't help! Is there some way to remove Mcafee from my computer other than this? I am desperate!
Thanks

btw: I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition. I'm sorry that I posted in the Windows Vista

Did Mcafee have the most recent virus definitions installed?
If it didn't then you can really blame it for not catching the infections.
It needs the latest virus definitions to know how to detect and remove the latest viruses.

None of these worked.

Did you do an initial cleaning with Spybot and CCleaner (the registry part)? Spybot has to be run "as administrator". Both are available for free from Filehippo.com. Then try again with the McAfee uninstaller above.

Download and run these programs one after the other (they are all free)
Spyware Doctor
Spyware Terminator
SuperAntiSpyware
If you want links for a secure download site, just ask

2 more methods: a) try this program http://www.revouninstaller.com/
b) try to uninstall it in Safe Mode. Maybe it does not uninstall because it was started with the startup programs and hangs on to something. Alternatively you can also try to delete it from the startups.
