Help! Cant boot from usb stick

Ok...so I've put Linux Ubunut (installed) on my usb stick put I restarted my pc select usb storage from my dell laptop boot order then message displayed 'remove cds and removable devices, press key to continue' then it says no operating found even though i reinsert my usb stick

Dont Remove The USB pendrive just press they key to continue.

did you happen to setup the boot loader at all, this could be the prob. if you didn't do it.

if pressed f12 to access the one-time bootloader, does it make a difference?

i'm not sure but it should be where the os is installed so if you go into your main os you should be able to do it from inside of that os then try to load it.

@Jack. I have Linux installed on my usb stick and it should be able to boot from that though, so why isnt it booting from the stick?

Depending on what your BIOS boot settings are you may need to press a key like F12 and select the USB disk to boot to it.

So you pressed F12, selected USB Disk (or similar) and got the above message? If so that is odd. How did you install Linux on to the USB Disk?

followed instruction from http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ also tried testing my usb by making a bootable memtest frm my usb but got same results

i have figured this out. you don't actually boot from the usb you boot from the live cd them you save you stuff on the usb stick. i read it here:

Well that solves it then i did think most OS's do still prefer to be on disc when ran not USB.

Thnx 4 ur time, bt after booting Linux on my usb it still seyz same thing.
