None of my programs work- Every single icon is identical! I was creating a desktop shortcut and all of a sudden every icon became identical and when u click on them they can't find any file- I have no idea how this happened- I have noticed with Windows 7 sometimes when i rename a file folder, ALL the folders get renamed, VERY annoying but "undo rename" fixes THAT. This is maddening! Have rebooted twice. Was able to fix the "desktop icons" by going to personalization and setting, "change to default". But my start button programs: omg nothing is working. Navigate to
C:\Windows\regedit.exe
Copy regedit.exe to another partition, or external drive.
Rename it regedit.com
Double click on it to open Regedit.
Navigate to,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe
Expand the .exe
Do you have an entry there named UserChoice ?
If so, delete it. (just the UserChoice, not the .exe)
Reboot computer.
Edit. Do back up your registry before you change anything.

LH that's a good 'hack'....nice rem that one, nearly as good as disabling uac,....permently.i use a simmiler hack to get rid of unwanted programs.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoftwindows\currentversion\policis\system
theres 5 HKEY_ to get into system ive had a peep..(pheeew)
