I think it is probable that the "switching system" in the actual socket, is either bent or broken. It is only a thin piece of steel connected to a contact.

Great. My warranty ended yesterday so... is it possible to fix it myself?

That would depend on your experience of testing and repairing of electronic devices!

True... Well i pretty handy with hardware but i've never tried to fix a laptop. I emailed acer and they said that the repair fee would be $568. Overpriced much?

Your Acer Aspire is worth less than $568 and for that money you can buy a very good brand new laptop. Take the one on this page as an example http://officedepot.shoplocal.c.....edepot.com

I know, they over charge. I hate it. Is it pssible to remove the front pannel and fix it myself? The waranty is already void.

Before you do anything dramatic: Have you tried to mute the speakers? Does that mute the headphones too? But no way should you be spending over $500 for such a nit; maybe you find a friend who knows how to take a laptop apart - it is not obvious.
