Sometimes, it's just better to start over...
XP PRO is installed
XP PRO is what I want to reinstall

I am feeling stupid today, but I cannot for the life me get the bloody PC to format C: (primary and ONLY partition) so that I can start over....
I've tried to Format C: in DOS prompt
I've tried to delete the partition (disk 0 partition 1)in disk manager (grayed out)
I thought the install disk used to give you an option to format, but I can't find that option anywhere..

my forehead is getting bloody from beating it on my desk.... any help out there?

Thanks in advance,
Angela

angela100,

Obviously you need to prepare the HD first.
What is the Make and Model Number of the Machine ??
Does the machine have a Floppy Disk Drive ??
Post Back.

Have your PC boot from the CD (you will need to make a BIOS change to make the CD/DVD drive the first boot disk). When the system loads from your XP disk, you will be given the option to format the drive (and go NTFS rather than FAT32). Apply Neosporin and Band-Aids to the forehead. You should be good to go. Oh and have a shot or two on stand-by just in case!!

thanks, guys... the boot sequence is already looking for CD first....setup sees a current installation from CD. this PC (Dell Lattitude D810) is being recycled from work... it randomly loses it's sight of the CD drive so I get going in this loop in this loop in this loop IHATEPCSIHATEPCS

restarting going into BIOS to see what the heck is going on there... have tied a USB cable around my neck... er I mean my waist... going in....

OK, round of shots on me....I'm doing the same thing tomorrow if it makes you feel any better, and I know I will have an issue or two....hopefully Rich can help you till I get back from dinner with Sue.

EDIT: I can only assume that you are aware, but all of your drivers are here.

Angela, I had a good laugh. You are fun. Stick around. No wonder your system is slow - did get it at a fire sale at the Smithsonian?

@Scott, the Lamb shank was awesome, pulled right off the bone, I'll have to give you Sue's report on the Chicken Marsala later...

@angela, sounds like you are up against the Babel Fish puzzle, by the gods I hated that one (as did everyone else).

OK, so I find myself basically with the same issue as posted here
same issue

NONE OF THESE DRIVERS WERE LOADED with my XP Pro (I was not using the Dell recovery disk - I wonder if I can dig that up somewhere?_

Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
Network Controller
PCI modem
PCI simple communications controller
Video controller (VGA compatible)

how the hell do I know which driver is for which controller when I go the D810 driver page at Dell?

angela100,

Whoa......

Sorry for just catching up with your post again.

I see where we left you hanging.

Please Post back - EVERY NUMBER WHICH IS ON THAT COMPUTER TO INCLUDE SERVICE TAG, ETC.

Appears DELL produced several versions of the 810 with different components.

Reference my FIRST reply back to you at the beginning of the thread.

Kindest Regards,
