I have watched over the years as techies, using the "RUN" command, have found things, like googlewave, I had no idea were on my computer, let alone adjust settings. Things that take me five steps to get to,I've seen techs flash to with one command from "run". I've accumulated a number of commands over the years, but am always stunned by the coolest 'new' ones I see used. Keeping them 'alive' in the 'run' drop-down seems impossible in that something always cleans that out.
I think it might serve the "level 2" user (perhaps even the "level 4" peeps), if the King Geek were to do an article of the wondrous things (and those to stay the heck away from) that can be accomplished via a run command. The ones I turn to most often are "msconfig", "regedit", "%temp%", "prefetch", and "configuration". I have a sneaking hunch there are at least three or four more I could certainly use to my advantage.
I'm surprised (assuming - and one should not) How-To has never done an expose on the run commands and how they can help maintain a puter. If you've done an article as I've described, would you consider a reprint for those of us who missed out?
Don't know what I'd do without HTG,
