I decided to start a new thread following my hard frive reformatting. I am wondering what the appropriate level of security and programs are for a home computer? I uninstalled the Norton Internet security trial, as I found Norton to be sluggish. On my old set up, I was using the follwoing programs: Avast free AV and Windows defender and firewall. I would run Spybot and Ad-Aware free regularly. I had Winpatrol running.

Is this about the right level of protection? I find the security suites slow down the system. I was considering a paid AV program (Avast seems to chug a lot). I thought I would ask forum members for their perspective as I rebuild my drive.

have a great weekend.

We have found the new AdAware to be bloated. Other opinions may vary. The new Spybot version (we're using the 1.5.1.15 beta) is excellent and has Defender integration. And Scotty on 'patrol' can't hurt ;)
