My business has been using Gmail for about two years and it has done a great job of blocking spam for us. However, last week we started noticing that many non-spam emails were being blocked. These are just general emails from customers and friends. Sometimes it will be in the middle of emailing back and forth several times with a customer and Gmail will decide the 3rd reply is all of a sudden spam and filter it out so I don't receive it in out inbox.. this is happening to all of us and it started on the same day.

Did something change with Gmail's Spam filters last week? What can I do to correct this other than check the spam box and mark it is not being Spam? This is only so effective as we don't know every customer that is going to email us and can't put them on a safe list.

thanks for any help!

There's no way you can customize or even disable the oversmart spam filter of gMail. As a workaround, use filters to send the desired emails to inbox. Adding the sender to the Contacts would also supposedly prevent the mails from that sender from going to the spam folder.

Hope that helps.

Has someone in your business created a filter that would block by "Has the words" that includes words that could block multiple emails ?

no...we haven't changed a thing. we just assumed it was a change in gmail's spam blocker, but can't figure out what. we have no idea why it has all of a sudden changed. we wouldn't mess with anything since we were happy with the job it was doing.

Hi cluelessinseattle

You don't have to mess around with the spam filter (which is automatic) when you set up your manual filters. All the people at your org started receiving their emails in the spam folder at the same time because the spam filter is the same for all gMail users and works the same way for all of them.

In a manual filter, all you have to tell gMail is that if the "To" field of an email received by you contains your email address (that is, if it was supposedly sent to you), then move that email to your inbox folder. It's safe and straightforward. (The manual filters are provided by gMail itself so you can customize your emails.)

But if you are paranoid, that's reasonable. I can u'stand very well. Good luck in any case.
