I have a custom built PC and I went to plug headphones into my front Audio Port and it wouldn't work. There are no yellow triangles in Device Manager.

My motherboard is an ASUS M4A785-M.

I haven't opened the case up to see if anything is loose. I want to see if I can solve the problem without opening the case.

Any suggestions as to what could be wrong?

I will check the BIOS setting for non-digital sound and see if this fixes it.

Once I got in there and found the setting the front panel was set to HD-AUDIO. The cable coming from the front panel has an HD-AUDIO and AC'97 connectors (this I remember). I changed it to AC'97 because I have that connector plugged into MB but it didn't fix problem. If I unplug my speakers from the rear connector the sound menu shows that no device is connected even if there is something connected to the front.

Looks like I'm going to have to open the case.

I'm gonna try re-installing the driver first before opening the case. Then gonna check BIOS version. I'm pretty sure I updated it (BIOS) a while ago to the latest update.

I updated the driver and it worked!! :D I realized after I updated the driver that the program "VIA HD Audio Deck" was no longer on my computer. This is the program that controlled my sound. After it updated and installed the program everything is working fine!

Thanks Rick, I thought about doing a driver update but wanted to see if anyone else had any suggestions.

EDIT: It helps when you save BIOS changes! (LOL)
