(Solved) - free dvd ripper

would any of you guys happen to know of a good dvd ripper that converts to an .avi format? i have a friend that needs one but i can't find anything really thats free

the best one i know if is Gordion Knot from sourceforge.net

it is kinda hard to use, but man it is very very powerful

@whs i need one that will output to .avi and that one just goes to dvd format from what i can see

You are quite welcome

gordian knot is a very powerful program, however it is not one program. it is actually half a dozen different programs all being controlled my one central program. when you download it, it should come with all these programs, and all the codecs it needs in case you do not have them already. I use this GK regulatory, one tip, if you have GK install the codecs, the Divix 5.(something) is a demo, and the Xvid does install spyware (or so it says in the terms of use)

Handbrake(free) or aimersoft dvd ripper(I use it for a long time and it works really nice), you can check them our here for free

Hey Jack,

I don't have a single app solution. I use dvd decrypter to make an iso then i use fairuse wizard to make the avi.

Also, DVDFab decrypter rips DVDs shrinks them and makes ISO. I use that sometimes. I guess that one is a single app solution and i dind't even realize it.

ya but my friend doesn't want to put back on a dvd he wants it in .avi so i need a ripper
