Download Microsoft Security Essentials. Its a free anti-virus and is awesome at its job. Get it from

Email use/ Windows live mail http://download.live.com/wlmail

I use Microsoft Security Essentials, it is free, works, and is low on system resources. For email, I would suggest using gmail (mail.google.com) and if you want to download the mail or use it offline use offline gmail.
