AVG used to be good but lately it has become resource heavy. Avast and MSE are much lighter. Some have reported that Evira also does well.

There's one free program I've come across that I absolutely can't live without. I fix computer's for a living and it's just essential, it's called Total Internet Repair. It repairs ALL .dll's, registry entries, settings, it's truly awesome. It's standalone so no installation. It's good for anything from typical internet connectivity issues to manually uninstalling tough firewall/parental control programs that have associated themselves with these system files. Thanks, these lists are great.

By the way I don't recommend MSE, I used it for a few months and it let a banking trojan slip by. Stole by login information to Bank of America, I stick to Norton now but my preference for a free antivirus would be Avast! or Avira, I didn't like AVG

Rapport will block that kind of activity.

That's OK :)

Here's a list of some Rapport demo's on how it works if you feel inclined that I compiled: http://www.howtogeek.com/forum.....?replies=8

The kind of attack you suffered is beyond the scope of normal AV's I think, especially if the trojan is already activated...this is where Rapport can step in.

At the bottom of Rapport's home page there is a list of banks using Trusteer. It also recommends that you download it from your bank's website.

I found VIPRE to be the BEST of any anti virus software since I started using computers in 1983.
There is a free trial version. It does not slow down your computer as it works in the background. I don't work for them. I'm just a cautious computer geek that feels others should know.

I have been using TED Notepad for a long time. Straight forward but does things Notepad doesn't even dreamt of.
Useful for programmers. Fits on a USB flash drive. Works on both 32 and 64 bit.

There are so many good free NotePad alternatives which have many more features than notepad:
