My laptop is not reading my flash card. It's a fairly new flash card, so there shouldn't be any problems with it. I think maybe the driver on my computer needs to be updated, but I don't really know where or what to look for and I don't have a whole lot of time to research and find out.

Here's my laptop specs:

Toshiba Satellite L305
Genuine Intel CPU 585 @2.16GHz
2 GB ram
32 bit operating system

Firstly, thank you.

I installed the new driver, but my computer is still not recognizing that there is a card in it.

When you originally plugged your flash card in did you see any message in the lower rt of the taskbar? Should have said something like "Found new device, installing drivers for new device, New device is ready to use".

So we are on the same page, is it a flash card or a flash drive?
Either way you really shouldn't have needed any additional drivers.

It is a flash card. SanDisk SDHC 8GB.

By some chance the card isn't inserted incorrectly? This happened to me once, just once.

EDIT: Have you looked in device manager to see if it is working?
Do you have another system you can check the card on?

I am sure that the card is being inserted properly. Here is what the device manager had to say:

Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47)

To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it in again.

You need to restart your computer before the changes you made to this device will take effect.

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

Also, no, the switch on the card is not in the locked position.

If I had to guess, I'd say it would probably work on a different system. I don't have another one to test it on though.

To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it in again.
Going to be a job to unplug the reader > plug back in > then restart your system.
This might help if you have experience.

EDIT:
You might want to give this a try first

Seems to be a common problem. Here's another fix attempt you can try.

Before you go through all that, are other cards reading? Try another card.

I don't have another card :/

@germ-x
I looked at the link you posted in your edit and it sounds like I am having the exact same problem as was described. I'm going to try what was suggested there and see what happens.
