Note that RC1 will replace Firefox 2 if you install it (the earlier betas ran side-by-side as default).

And contrary to my peers, I suggest you download this Firefox build from the Mozilla folks themselves, http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html
and Final releases at http://www.getfirefox.com
The benefits are numerous.

A fairly large number of themes and extensions won't work with this release, including extensions that worked with firefox 3 beta 5.

You can install the nightly tester tools or Mr Tech - Local Install extensions to make the other extensions compatible (just search for them in the add-ons panel)

[edit: thanks to scott for pointing out the right name for mr tech]

CPJames, it's not that Firefox 3 isn't cool, but until it's a final release, install at the risk of broken extensions and themes (as stated above). The final is expected within 2-5 weeks.

@xenomex. if InDiSent's comment was for you, it's a worthy caveat. I've seen no documentation (yet) for installing over-the-top or not.

MR Tech is an excellent extension regardless of version you use.

Yeh, I love FF and was not bashing it. I just think that no one can tell you if you should install something or not. That is totally your decision to make after doing the research. I personally have not installed any of the beta versions of FF3 and will patiently wait for the final version. I want to make sure all of my extensions and themes that i use will be supported before upgrading to FF3. Again, I love FF and it's the only browser i use. If i end up at site the requires IE, i just use the IE tabs extension.

I used to think FireFox was the fastest, but i noticed that Opera 9.50 Beta was WELL faster...

i haven't really seen any probs with ff beta 5 yet just some things on some of the photo things. (from photobucket or others) but that isn't too big of a deal though.

You could try FF3RC1 on an SD card along with Nightly Tester Tools or MR Tech Local Install to override the the extension compatibility check. Just make sure all instances of FF are closed when running from the card.
The Portable Apps version is still 2.0.0.14
