HI! First Post! So glad i found this place. has already solved many problems i was having.
my specs:
HP dv5 1004-nr
AMD Turion X2 Ultra dual-Core Mobile ZM-80 2.10 GHz
4.00 GB Ram
64 bit VISTA

About a week ago i "upgraded" to Ff 3.5 from Ff 3.0.11. As soon as I did this, my laptop became snail like. TONS of cpu usage and RAM usage. though this forum i have resolved many of the CPU usage and disabled junk that did not need to be running. Still have an inordinate amount of RAM usage. Anywhere from 1.38 GB (where it is right now and level on the usage graph) all the way up to 2.03GB (at that time level on the task manager usage graph) I can not find out what is using so much RAM constantly. Can not watch video on the net, and having issues with video on DL to my HDD. Even opening the folder where I keep my full length movies can take up to 2 minutes to load.

I uninstalled Ff3.5 and reinstalled Ff 3.0.11 just to see if that is what caused it, as i said it all started After i installed 3.5. No help there..
I am wondering if anyone can help me figure out how to find out what is running, how to tweak it and get my pc back to running like Usain Bolt, like it did before I made the change.
thank you.

jasonallen347,

Instead of adding more "stuff" into the system, might consider "decrapifying" the machine.
Says compatible with all "flavors" of Vista.

A good reference for setting up your Vista Services.

To all having Firefox Memory Issues.

Back up your bookmarks.
Back up Stylish scripts.
Back up Greasemonkey scripts.
Take note of all your extensions and any special settings they have.
Uninstall Firefox using Revo Unistaller (most advanced option).
Install Firefox 3.5.
Import Bookmarks.
Install extensions and customize.
Import Stylish scripts.
Import Greasemonkey scripts.

@LH
The reason I suggest this is, I have had issues with Firefox keeping old configuration files (especially for extensions, even ones long since uninstalled). A completely fresh installation seems to help.

JM...

i want to try what you said, but i don't know what Stylish and Greasemonkey scripts are and i looked on the wiki page and there is nothing there?
i use XMARKS to backup my bookmarks etc.
I also have a TON of plugins that i have no idea what they do so i don't know if i need to get rid of them.
I am going to try what you said now. will get back to you with the results.

MIKEHUNT & RAPHOENIX:
I tried what you said and it cleaned up a lot of junk, but still devouring RAM and video is still incredibly choppy... i can handle the slightly slower (sometimes) if the video would play smooth.

JM... did that and it took a long time, but i got rid of all that i know i could safely to "start over" and see if i just deleted/uninstalled all the junk running around my pc if that wuold help the performance. also used CC Cleaner, and the defragger on both my drives, as well as iobit utility mentioned earlier... registry optimization/defragger, defragger on both drives, disk cleanup etc...

STILL SLOW!!!! aaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHHH!!!1

I am now totally lost.
i have copies (screenshots) or my processes, installed programs and desktop if that would help anyone help me figure out why my pc is so slow now... for two weeks now. let me know, thanks,
Jason

You seem to have figured it out, but Stylish and Gresemonkey are add-ons for Firefox that have scripts used to customize many different things.

If I understand, it isn't just Firefox that is slow, but the entire computer?

Posting the screenshots might actually help, by the way.

I would check what programs you have starting up with Windows (AIM, MSN, Yahoo! Messenger, etc.) and turn off the feature to have them "Start with Windows." You could also check if you have any toolbars installed. (Open Internet Explorer... *shudder*)

Try running Ad-Aware and Spybot: Search and Destory as well.

JMc. yes, the whole computer is being slow now. it all started when i DL FF 3.5. i did what you said, and it is working a little better. video still choppy, but not as bad as it was. i am DL Ad-Aware and Spybot. I will let you know what happened.

BTW... FF 3.0.11 had 264 Registry files and 1004 Files and Folders when scanned with Revo Uninstaller.
Yahoo messenger had 1475 registry files and 1201 files and folders.

For All To See: Here is my Desktop, Installed Programs (some i do not know what they are and i don't know if i can get rid of them) and my running processes.

please follow this link:

processes, programs etc

thanks for your help all.

I didn't see anything that jumped out to me as "phishy." I do not know what "WebEx" is though.
