I need to set up conditional formation which will count how many times a name is entered into a table. Names will be limited to about 6 and entered from drop down menues to prevent spelling difference.

So if "Tom" is in the table 5 times I would like a cell to show "5".

In the cell you want the number of occurences to display, place the function =COUNTIF(A1:A15,"Tom"). Replace "A1:A15" with your range.

This is not conditional formatting. Conditional formatting changes the way cell(s) "look" based on information contained in those or other cells.

Thanks, exactly what I needed. I had my mind set to do it one way - which was wrong.
