concerned about security: have xp and xp pro. do they have encryption? what is encrypted, just internal items or is outgoing e-mail and data protected? want to find out how to activate and use and then move up to vista once understood.

XP/Vista when using NTFS can encrypt individual files and folders you select.
Vista with Bitlocker (Requires a TPM chip) can encrypt the entire drive.
Neither supports encrypting outgoing email.
