Yeah, he was working the ship (delivering water and diesel), got his leg tangled around the rope, over the side, never to be seen again. So they sent me there to take his place. I ain't so stupid when it comes to ropes, and high places.
I know, I remember a thread about guessing your age somewhere along the line. Didn't do lighthouses but steelmills were not a treat either. But hey, we made it. And, had a lot of experiences we can share when the memory is jogged.
63 (1949) Worked on power line construction for a while, then moved into warehousing. Drove forklifts, ranging from, 1 ton to 10 ton, operated pendant and mobile cranes, up to 10 ton, and occasionally drove some trucks, ranging from pickups to semis. Was with the company for 32 years.
