DVD's recordables not recognised in drive
(8 posts)I have an optiarc dvd rw ad 7530a, running on a an advent 7301. I also have verbatim dvd's, not just one type (+,- and rw's) i wondered if somehow they could have may have been corrupted somehow?
I do have nero and it tells me there is a dvd inserted but when i try to write to it it fails. Even when i use windows, for example i have been trying to do a photo dvd, it just fails me now.

Most optical writers have trouble with certain types of media. The drive makers don't like to discuss this, though I have seen some that post a list of "certified" media that they have tested. Also, at videohelp.com in the DVD Media section, people post their experience with different media types and drives to aid in finding compatible media:

You can look up the media you have then see if anyone with an Optiarc DVD writer has had success or trouble with it. Note that it is possible to have DVD+/-R media from Verbatim that works in the drive and DVD+/-RW media from Verbatim that does NOT work in the same drive.
There have been situations where the same branded media was made by different manufacturers. There was a lot of grief when Verbatim moved from "Made in Singapore" to "Made in India" as some folks had trouble with the MII media. You might still find people looking for Verbatims that are "MIS".
However, the situation you observe does not sound like this. I believe you are saying that you are using media from the same spindle that used to work in your system. Also, seeing the Maxell will not burn is further confirmation of something wrong. There could be a driver or software conflict. Honestly, it could be a lot of things including the possibility that the drive is malfunctioning. However, here are some other things to try:
* Uninstall the DVD Writer drive in Device Manager then restart and let the new hardware wizard reinstall it.
* Look for a driver upgrade -- try Advent first, then Optiarc.
* Look for a firmware upgrade to the drive -- again, Advent first then Optiarc.
hi. i saved some important pics and vid clips in one dvd recordable a few weeks ago. it was perfectly fine then and i can open all my files using vista. some days ago, i tried it in ubuntu and i think i clicked on unfamiliar commands. when i inserted it in my vista agian, it says the dvd is empty but the free space is down to 1G only. i tried downloading free versions of cdroller and it was able to identify my files and its readable.but i cant save it unless i purchase the software. is there a free software that i can use to save/retieve all that 3G files? I badly need HELP!! thanks so much.
