DVD Drive not reading burned discs

Windows 7 Home Edition software. Toshiba laptop.
Problem: DVD drive writes data just fine, also reads store-bought DVDs and CDs fine, but will not read discs that I have burned myself.

I have used Microsoft's "Fix It" software in the past, but it never stopped the problem from recurring, and now doesn't fix it at all.

All drivers are up to date, at least that's what System says.

I'm not ruling out needing a new DVD drive, but I just don't see that as the problem with everything else working as it does.

Any help is appreciated.

Sometimes cd/dvd drive manufacturers would have recommended (compatible) brand of disc for burning. What burning software are you using? Also, try to burn at a slower speed (6x or 8x) and not at the max.

I can try that, but it never was an issue before.
Burned discs that were read by the drive before are not being read now.
