Shrink volume, format, install onto partition etc. But my problem is that after installing xp and then reeboot to go into the o/s it wont load either o/s just says cant load and stops so i have to shut down pc. Any help much appreciated. Gav.

Hii Stella..i think u should start with what system do u have- like :

1.Procs
2.Mainboard
3.RAM size
4.HDD
5.Xtra info of system like Desktop@Notebook

so the others got some clue to help u,i'm using dualboot system too,my experiance may not same like u,becoz i,m install XP first then Vista after that, and i got no prob with my OS since using dual boot, the prob became when we install XP after Vista, there was a boot options problem, but the windows still can go on.Like me,i'm lost boot options for Vista after install XP,but the XP os still can open, then i'm repair the Vista OS using Vista DVD,and i got access to Vista but lost access to XP then,so my solutions is install XP first then top up Vista after all, because i'm not an xpert,For more info try refer to this thread .

Hi there, I have a core 2 duo 3 gig processor E6850. The mainboard is a foxconn P35A, I have 4 gig of ram and 500 gig hard drive now partitioned into 450 and 50, oh and its a desktop. Windows Vista home premium 64 bit. It was a preinstalled version of vista and would like to get xp on without having to wipe the whole thing and back everything up.
Cheers Gav.

Just thought id let you all know that ive sorted the problem out and now everything is up and running.
The problem was after installing xp and the system rebooted it wouldnt load any o/s's. So i had to put my vista disc in and repair the boot to load vista, then run the vistabootpro to get the screen so i could select which o/s to load, and after selecting XP the system carried on the installation and now is all sorted.
