So I just got an alienware with these specs

Intel 945PM + ICH7M-DH Chipset mobo
Intel® Core™2 Duo 2.0ghz (4MB Cache, 667MHz FSB)
4GB Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
Dual 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT GDDR3
160gig 7,200rpm HDD
Realtek integrated sound
Running Vista Home Premium 64bit

My question is would it be better to try to use a dual or tri-monitor setup, or just go with a 40"ish HD TV? I do everything from word processing to gaming online at my native resolution of 1920x1200, which I like, either way I go I know I'm losing the really high res, I'm just wondering if there's a way to amaze myself with quality to where I dont really miss the high res... any input from anybody on how to setup dual and tri monitors with DVI, any advice would be greatly appriciated, thanks in advance!

I personally love having multiple monitors... once you get used to it, you won't want to ever go back. Of course I'm not a gamer either.

The main problem with the 40" HDTV is that you'll get a really low resolution, and it's tough to deal with not being able to use much of the space on the screen because your resolution is so pathetic. It's great for gaming, though. Couldn't you do a dual-monitor setup... one connected to your regular LCD, and another connected to a 40" tv?

As far as actually setting it up... if you have more than one DVI connector, you simply plug it into the other monitor. The NVIDIA control panel makes it simple to configure.

I only have 1 DVI port on the computer and the new HD TVs run 1920x1080, which isn't any lower than my native resolution of 1920x1200 on the laptop... I was more wondering what kind of equipment I would need to set up tri monitors, I've found that $200 DVI splitter I would need for the dual monitors, would I need something similar to that for 3? I havent found one that supports 3

i think that the splitter just puts the same image onto the other screen and doesn't act as a third monitor. i might be wrong but i am pretty sure though.

AHH FOILED AGAIN!!! Well any suggestions on how to set it up, I might just have to go with a 22" monitor, a TV and the laptop screen itself, If I dont throw the laptop out the window first. All these problems I have would probably be a lot easier to surf the web and find answers for if internet in Iraq wasnt a quarter the speed of dial up!

huh cuz when i used to have dial up it was anywhere from 16 kbs to 24 kbs and very rarely 26 kbs but that is because we live in a really old house and the phone lines are smaller so that is only how fast they can go. and when i say old i mean old like it's over 100 years old!
