Hi Guys

I followed all the easy and precise instructions on how to install XP on a pre installed Vista computer and everything seems well, i am able to boot into both OS's however, when i boot into XP, i am unable to use the Internet or carry out any related network tasks as my network cards etc are not recognized.

Vista is obviously working fine when i boot into that, it is just the XP partition i am having problems with. I am currently using a HP Pavilion a6402.uk.

Do i need to re install all the drivers that are XP compliant for my network drives in order for them to work?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

broker81,

WHILE IN VISTA, download all XP machine drivers from HP Site and put them in a Driver Folder.

Move the Driver Folder to the XP partition where you installed XP root.

Reboot and choose XP O/S.

WHILE RUNNING XP O/S, install device drivers from Drive Folder for your machine.

The XP Drivers must be installed on the XP O/S Partition that is running XP so (DO NOT) (DO NOT) try to install them while running in the Vista O/S Partition.

Everything should work fine after you perform the above procedure.

Thanks for the speedy reply raphoenix, i already had a look at the HP site however and the only OS systems they seem to support for driver downloads for my mode are Vista.

Any other options, shall i just keep looking on Goggle or is there and easy way to get a compatible match.

You can try downloading the Intel G31 Express Chipset Driver sence that is the chipset that HP lists that model using.

broker81,

Jd2066 has a GOOD idea !!

I just assumed you had made a "Slipstream" with the G31 Chipset Driver included using Nlite before you loaded XP. My mistake for assuming too much - Sorry About That.

After installing the G31 Chipset Driver, go into Device Manager and see how many devices have a red (X) or yellow (!).

THEN IT IS YOUR CHOICE COMPLETELY.

The HP Vista Drivers MIGHT, MIGHT work with XP but I don't know ???

If you try to install them, JUST MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN XP so you won't mess up your Vista Partition.

Also you may go to the MS Update Site in XP.

Many times they have a couple of HW drivers that show up automatically after update scans the XP system.

Also, if you can find out what third party manufacturer made the MB IE Asus, ECS, etc., sometimes they will have drivers listed for similiar mother boards they market under their own name.

Your Call, just make sure you are using XP and are in the XP partition when you try modifying anthing in it.

HP and Dell are tough to deal with.

The last time I dealt with HP, I had to go all the way up the chain of command to a VP of Development to get straight answers.
