Doom 3 was a bit of a cow to get going, but as far as I remember I just installed it and away it went. The only problems I had were the graphics settings, as I was on a laptop. If I can find my copy, (I quite fancy a game, now) I'll fire it up and let you know the score. Won't be 'till at least Thursday, though...

@ColinAirlie, thanks, can executables get corrupted and cause this?
since i thought it may have been something wrong with the executable i used various cracked .exe's to see the results and all failed in different ways :(
the best was the crack for ver 1.3, i think, it went this far: little doom 3 image appears on screen, then loading screen that says initializing windows and then loading but immediatley goes black and returns to the desktop with the message that it stopped working.
the ver 1.0 .exe when it went black Task Manager had to be started to get back to the desktop, so is it the executable that causes this?
i got doom 3 running on the dell miini 9 netbook, on LOW quality settings with bump mapping on specular on and shadows on, all else off, also upgrading to 2Gb RAM didnt hurt :P
would re-installation help? or even worth a try?
edit: again, thanks for the help :)
Should be worth a go, it always is, before you give up! :) I'd suggest installing the game and updating/patching it BEFORE you run it. Doom 3 has one product key per copy of the game, which ID can't/won't give you once the game is shipped. If you've not got the right key, the game won't run period.
I'm not too sure about .exe files, but like most files, I'm sure you can corrupt them. Your other alternative is to buy a copy from Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk, depending where you are. This is a last resort right enough.
I'd uninstall and reinstall, apply patches/updates, then try again. Use Revo to get the job done right.
Cheers,
Col
