Hi everyone, after long months of diet changes, and pills that cost way too much,My young Labador needs help! He has an apperent allergy and the local vet prescribes costly pills! I think the one dog has a bad reaction too weeds outside(backyard) as I do. My Yellow Lab seems ok,poor Rocky is scratching his fur off,any suggestions?

sparky. Do you know what sort of weeds they are? (Ideally the Latin name)

Are the weeds poison ivy or poison oak? You should get him a cortisone shot so that he gets some relief.

I believe that it is a ragweed or milk weed as I'm told. I feel bad for the bugger. Latin ? I don't know.

ragweed (if it's the same strain I know in UK) is not good. I am on the case :)

Hi Sparky,

I had a cat with the same allergy. Try the landscape link. I was able to identify and remove the weeds and it helped a lot. The other link says it's free but I'm not sure.

Hope this helps:)

Interesting reading Oma. I spent a long time on this (cos I love animals). I cannot find one single reference to any herbal way to combat the allergy. Or any easy way.
Chemist needed!

I really appreciate everyone's input,it breaks my heart to see a lovable dog in misery.I do have a weed killer(Roundup)that would probably work, but I'm afraid of letting the dogs in the backyard as they have to poop.I'll figure out something.

And I should say that when I last used my weeder,I was breaking out in my face and arms and it took me over a month to feel normal.

I didn't use pills, had to apply calamine lotion and cortisone cream and that cortisone crap really stung.Years ago I had a reaction to something(probably weeds)and it was so bad that I was given a steroid shot.

I would like to thank techgranny for the doggy website,I'm now receiving regular e mails from the vet's website. The homemade remedies they suggest are far more cheaper than a visit to the vet's.And little Rocky thanks you too.
