I've been going on to a particular forum for 6mths now,and never had a problem.
This morning I was OK, but this afternoon all I'm getting is :

Google Oops! This link appears broken.
DNS cannot find server

I've got it in my favorites so I can just click onto it, I have also doubled checked on the web to see if the address is correct and click on that, but still with no luck.

Any answer to what might have happened ?

grandma-sue,

Give them (24) hours.
They may be waiting on a part for the server(s).

Kindest Regards,
Rick P. ♥ :)

Put the link of your Forum into the search box of this site. http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ If it is not found there, then it is down for everyone (as it says).

Hi whs
I've tried the link above and I'm getting ( doesn't look like a site on the interwho ?

Now I find I have lost a further 3 from favorites, I have tried to feed addresses into google search but still I'm getting the same reply back from all four sites ????????????
If this carries on ,I might not be-able to even get on here!

I've tried to go onto internet to try and solve the problem , but even clicking onto some of these I get the same reply (and yet other sites I have know problem with)

HAVE I GOT A VIRUS?
I've checked on Norton and my secuity states SECURE

Two things:
1. Try a different browser. Opera is pretty good. You can import your IE Favorites there - they call them "bookmarks".
2. Scan your system with SuperAntiSpyware. That is a very good scanner.
Then let us know whether you are getting any place.

I have clicked onto the SuperAntiSpyware with no success(DNS Error)

I did try to go onto Orange Home UK (my server) where I typed in a few of my faverites forums (no luck)
But there again I think this is because at the side of search the wording is - ENHANCED BY GOOGLE!

I can click onto Opera and I see this has to be downloaded - does this mean I will have to delete google and email.

Sue, it looks like there are some name servers down. Try using OpenDNS, it should help.

Here is how to set it on a single computer (the link will take you to router settings/computer settings option).

Start...Control Panel...View Network Status/settings.
View Status then select TCP/IPv4. Press the Properties button.
Click the radio button for DNS servers and enter the following
Main: 208.67.222.222
Alt: 208.67.220.220
Hit OK.

I don't recall if it requires a reboot, but you will at minimum need to restart your browsers.

No, Opera is just like another program. It is a browser like Interner Explorer, Firefox, AOL or others. I have recommended Opera because it is easy to get aquainted with and it will take the IE favorites. Then from Opea you might be able to download SuperAntiSpyware.
I have deleted all the Google stuff from my system because it is very invasive. But this is a personal choice. I use AOL or Windows mail for mailing. But Opera has nothing to do with mail.

Just thought I'd check on my forums again before I got cracking.
Guess what! ALL IS WORKING CORRECTLY - so what happened to cause it?

Budohorseman - I went into control panel but I couldn't find Network Status/settings.
Will mine be under a different name?
Just wanted to know in-case it happens again

Grandma Sue, the full path is: Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center. On this page you should have either a "Local Area Connection" or "Wireless Network Connection". On the right there will be a "View Status" link. Click that, then the Details... button. From this window, Network Connection Details, write down the IPv4 DNS Servers and post them here. Then we will look them up and see who owns them.

The only news I saw of a DNS server down is one called NameCheap which was the subject of a DDOS attack.

Sorry about that, was trying to do it from memory, looks like Scott has it better. Go ahead and make the changes anyways, ISP's tend to throttle at the DNS level.

hi i hope this topic isnt dead. I have the same problem except for the fact that some websites i can't access will work if i hit the refresh button and some i can never access. :(

I tried accessing the super anti spyware link and got that google Oops link but a banner opens at the top where it would usually talk about activeX controls for other things and it says "Intranet settings are now turned off by default. Intranet settings are less secure than internet settings"

windows help and support said the intranet is "a private network, usually within a company or organization. An intranet uses the same protocols as the Internet and can contain the same types of content."

This is my laptop and its the first time i've heard of it. I'm the administrator and i didn't make any changes so I'm wondering if its a bot or some hacker changing settings.

I use bullguard internet security with windows firewall and have "Three" broadband. three is the name of the wireless broadband. also i leave the bullguard firewall off cause it interferes with the broadband mobile device.

any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
thanks in advance.

this is for anyone else who finds a link to this topic through google or whatever.

I fixed the problem myself by clicking on the little wrench picture in the top right of the internet explorer,
and turned off "suggest searches as you type". I think there is a software conflict somewhere. also you might want to turn off the store search history thing. No privacy now-a-days (>_<)

well anyway google was the problem
hope this helped :)

It is an interesting conflict that you had. Privacy seems to be becoming more and more tenuous on the internet and with computers generally. But with some care one can usually limit the loss somewhat.

Since I don't have a little "wrench picture" in the top right of IE, I trust that it is part of the google toolbar. Like whs, I have removed everything google from my machine for the same reason. AOL is in the same category for me. Now that google has investors to please, its motives and methods are changing. Their browser is an example, with its open access to cookies. When they were private, they did not need to knuckle under to foreign governments, either. They have begun partnering with other online biggies to slip their toolbar into as many downloads as possible. I would have gotten it with Flash 10 if I had not unchecked the box. I trust them a good deal less now than when they were private. I doubt that their search indexing, for example, is free of commercial influence any more.
