hu guys, seems like my pc is not well. I have sorted out the dual boot problem I had with Xp and Vista. I reinstalled the Vista. When I restart or shut down in vista all is fine, just one issue

1)I installed xp on c drive and vista on d drive. when I'm in xp i can see all my xp stuff in c drive and all the vista stuff on d drive. when i'm in vista all my vista stuff is on the c drive and my xp stuff on the d drive???????????

My other problem is when I'm in xp and I shut down the pc all is fine but when I restart I get to error messages which I click ok or cancel and the pc just hangs then, it doesn't restart and these errors keep popping up.

1) DWWIN.exe dll application failed to start because windows station is shutting down
2) drwtsn.exe dll application failed to start because windows station is shutting down

I went back into Xp and selected both these programs from Xp's i386 folder via tune up utilities to start when the pc starts up but I still get the same error?

What's going on guys?????

hi raven,

when you say you can see your XP stuff, is it thru Windows Explorer or "My Documents"?

hi guys

i went into dr watson log file and found that a few programs showed errors, i uninstalled them and reinstall them but now other programs are showing errors. and my username's documents aren't visisble in my computer but all files can be accessed using Windows Explorer. I tried booting up in last good known configuration but as soon as I restart, log off and shut down it says the dwwin.exe and drwtsn32.exe could not start and my pc doesn't shut down.

Is there perhaps some malware or virus my AVG is not picking up and if so what free software can I use right now to check if there is any malware or virus?

Update it before you run it.

right now i have Avira running on the pc but no detection yet. Is the program you suggesting better than avira and can this problem be malware related or am I missing the point?

lets say it's not a malware problem what can I do then? because what ever program dr watson says is causing an error i uninstall it and reinstall it and then there is just another program causing a problem.

hi LH, i ran a number of scans and nothing showed any signs of malware. I logged into my guest account and I were able to restart without any problems. So I simply created another administator account and saved all my files and deleted the old administrator account which solved my problem. However I named my second administrator account Back Up and when I deleted my original administrator account I renamed my new account from Back Up to my name but when I open Task Manager it still shows username by processes as Back Up? Is there anyway I can fix this

Yes. It's because the first account created when the system was installed, will forever be the first account. You can change the name, and that will show up in the "friendly" places. But look behind the GUI a bit, and you will see the reality.

@LH

I went into administrative tools and went to Users, there I did see my Back Up username(RAVEN/Back Up). I right clicked on the name and where able to change my username like that. I restarted my system and when I opened task manager my username was no loger displayed as Back Up.
