Does anybody know how to disable this stupid button?

You're welcome, whs. I realize that the tutorial I linked to disables the lock function, not just that button in the start menu. Is that what you wanted? I think if you try to lock the system, for example with Win+L, it won't work after that policy/registry change. Have you tried it yet?
Aleeve, you may not believe this but I do not know how to unlock the damn thing after it's locked. My wife locked one of my systems and now I have to always go thru this rain dance to wake it up from sleep. There is somehow a void regarding "unlock" in my brain and it is so easy to miss the sleep button and lock yourself in.
@ScottW, no I have not tested it for the above reasons (in case it does not work).
If you have to unlock the thing every time it sleeps then it probably means you have that particular machine set to require password when waking up. On my laptop, this is under Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Power Options, then in the top left it has an option for "Require password on wake up", which should allow you to permanently set it to NOT require a password... dunno if this helps?
Thanks Coco for the hint. But I don't think it's that. I have no system password. It just comes back with XXX locked. Then I have to go thru this rain dance (choose other user - which is the same, click on that and then it works) to get back to the desktop. Just an unnecessary pain.
Well, why didn't I find this the first time? The Geek has an article on disabling Lock using the same registry key:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto.....windows-l/
It's odd, because his article says it disables the Win+L key function. One person commenting on the article says that his Win+L still works but the Start Menu Lock Button is disabled -- just like Lighthouse. Does this key behave differently on different systems? Maybe there is some other setting somewhere that affects how it behaves.
I am not sure what it did. I applied #2 of method 2 from this link http://www.vistax64.com/tutori.....elete.html that ScottW had supplied.
