I have just uninstalled a program that did not work in Vista. I can't delete the icons from the desktop. Have tried deleting and tried to transfer them into the recyle bin. The icons just stay on the desktop. Please help.

Do they show up in the explorer window when that views the desktop? I have noticed similar things happen when on very rare occasions when i delete something as well. It seems to go away when i restart or kill explorer. So yeah, try that. Otherwise, someone clever here may have a registry fix for you..

welcome nard79. Is this all your icons, or just some of them? (ie anywhere on the the computer, or just on the Desktop)
Try this anyway. Start up Windows in Safe Mode, then reboot.
