Desktop auto-duplicating files

Driving me crazy: Most files I download from Internet or create in OpenOffice or other app AUTOMATICALLY save as dupe version on Desktop--even though I'm doing a "Save As" to a doc folder. These are not auto shortcuts but real copies. I do NOT want this to occur as I do NOT manage files via Desktop. But I can't figure out how to change it! Advice greatly appreciated!

Go to the right top of your IE and click the little arrow next to "Page", Then "Save as" and see what it says in there what the path is. You have to do that from a webpage where the problem occurs.

Do you use Internet Explorer or Firefox? I know Firefox auto saves to the desktop.
If you use Internet Explorer then that is an odd problem. There isn't any auto backup save function in Internet Explorer.

Original poster replies: Using Firefox as browser. So is that the source of the problem? If so, I'll try to use FireFox help to resolve. Will also double-check IE path as suggested.
