(Solved) - Dell 1555 problem, help needed please.

My problem is with a Dell 1555 laptop that has a defective HD & I have ordered a new one. I do NOT have a backup of the HD but I do have all of the legal SW product keys for WIN 7 PRO 64 bit and OFFICE 2010 stored on another PC. I need the steps to make this replacement HD work but I don't know how to get started. I would appreciate if someone can point me in the right direction to get this PC fixed for my grandson. I also don't have a rescue type CD to get the PC up far enough to load anything. I also have a large external HD that I could load with the WIN 7 PRO 64 bit but how do I get it and then transfer this SW to the new HD.

You will need to burn the ISO to a DVD using this http://www.microsoftstore.com/.....vd_dwnTool
You can also use this tool to load to ISO to a USB Key if you have one, needs to be over 4GB though!

Is the Hard Drive totally defective?

The PC will not boot with the HD installed. When I remove the HD I am able to boot the PC with the CD. I assume that the HD is broke but unable to prove this as I do not have a replacement yet but one is on order. Thanks for your response as I really appreciate it.

Try pressing F12 during the Dell boot screen to boot from your CD/DVD drive without removing your HDD.

I tried all of the F keys but nothing happens on power up by tapping the F keys. The Dell logo stops with the bar under the logo about 2/3 of the way across. I am uable to get past this 2/3 of the bar unless I remove the HD & then the PC boots.

Replaced HD and installed WIN 7 PRO, Office 2010 PRO using the old product keys. I had to do the phone call to MSFT for the WIN 7 key validation but everything is working A-OK now. There were over 140 SW updates for WIN 7 & Office 2010. Thanks again for all of the help.
