I was wanting to know is it safe to Delete the Online Services on an HP computer. I was thinking it wouldnt be safe because of the registry there will still be a registry key or folder in there. What do you think?

Deleting A File
(4 posts)It depends on what the Online Services is on your system. Many new systems come with a folder that has icons for AOL, MSN, and so on that are either URLs or shortcuts to an installer application. I've never seen a system with any of these pre-installed, but if they were, the first thing to do would be uninstall them.
If they are just URLs or shortcuts or actual setup executables, there should be no registry entries to worry about.
I would first check your add/remove programs for an entry for Online Services. Removing it there will take care of any registry entries.
I know that I personally have removed them manually, without any issues. If the machine is running XP, then you will have to go to two or more locations to remove everything. One is in the <codee>Program Files folder. Also, the easiest way to do this is from the regular old start menu. Just open your start menu, go to All Programs, and delete the Online Services folder. Re-open your start menu and delete it again. This removes it from the Documents and Settings\[username] and the username for all users folders.
This is a regular practice on HP machines in my business, and we have not had any problems removing them whatsoever. The newer HP machines were coming in with the Online Services listed in Add/Remove Programs which made it much easier.
We haven't had any of these on Vista yet, so if that is your operating system, I can only wish you the best of luck. Hope this helps!
Good advice from Tobeus there. Also I suggest you use this for any uninstalling. It does a thorough cleanup.
