I have reviewed the "How to" on this subject, read everything, tried everything but with "ICACLS" I get a message “Invalid parameter ” and it refers to the last entries, andrew/f (Andrew is my username.
At the command prompt, I do not have just the drive letter but have the followingC:\users\andrew. So I just start ICACLS “C:\users\andrew\back\program files”/grant andrew/f
my objective is to be able to delete the folder Prgram Files
What am I doing wrong????

Why on earth would you want to delete the Program Files? That's where all your programs are stored.

OK. the folder contains a copy of the program files which have since been backed up onto an external hard drive - thus making them redundant.
The path is exactly what I see on my C drive. C: users/Andrew(user name)/back(identifying the folder as backup folder)program files (identifying the content)

Very strange to back-up in there??

Can you create a new admin account then remove your user account

Edit

Are these the same files your asking about on another forum

no need to go there. It's a backup.

geraintjo. You do have a C:\Programs File folder, don't you ?

Couple of answers:
The backup was created there due to a problem, which has since been resolved.
Yes I have a proper Program Files folder.
Yes I have tried creating a new admin account but still failed to delete the file.
Yes this is the same question I've asked on another forum but still no luck

There is one little trick that sometimes worked for me. When I could not delete the whole folder, I was still able to delete the individual files inside the folder. And once that folder was empty, I was able to delete that too. Once in a while I got stuck with one file in the folder though.

Hi Andrew. An Ubuntu Live CD would make this very easy. Unless your hard drive is encrypted that is...
